Grock était un clown génial, à la fois jongleur, acrobate, cascadeur, contorsionniste, danseur, mime ou directeur de troupe. Rois, reines et présidents d’Europe honoraient ce pitre qui a fait rire trois générations, en des temps où l’on ne riait pas forcément. Trois notes sur un petit violon suivies de son inimitable «Sans blâââgue!» suffisaient à déclencher des tonnerres d’applaudissements. Ce virtuose a composé plus de 2’500 mélodies…
Star universelle du rire, et adulé, il dessina et se bâtit un palais sur la Côte ligure, à la (dé)mesure de son succès: phénoménal! Belle revanche sur la pauvreté de son enfance! Il fut proclamé «plus grand Clown du 20e siècle».
Pourtant, sa légende s’éteignait en 1959 avec sa mort. Son héritage fut dilapidé, ses restes mortuaires disparurent, Grock tombait dans l’oubli. Aujourd’hui seulement, son destin hors norme et sa légende sont réhabilités par de nombreuses publications, productions et manifestations.

Yet his legend faded with his death in 1959. His legacy was squandered, his mortal remains disappeared, Grock fell into oblivion. Today alone, his destiny and his extraordinary legend are rehabilitated by numerous publications, productions and events.
